
Henry Wins 2 Events at UNC Meet

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Junior thrower Lawanda Henry had her first double-win meet of the season Saturday at the Kent Taylor-UNC Run For The Kids Invitational. They were two of the dozen events that Wolfpack athletes won in the day-long meet at the Eddie Smith Field House on the UNC campus.
Henry, an NCAA qualifier last year as a sophomore and three-time ACC champion, won both the shot put and 20-pound weight throw, giving her a total of five wins this season in the Wolfpack's first four indoor meets.
Sophomore Benjamin Major III, competing in his first meet since the December opener at Christopher Newport, won the 200-meter dash in 22.06 seconds and was third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.83 seconds. Sophomore T.J. Graham won the 60 meters, equaling his best time of the season at 6.70 seconds.
Both Major and Graham were also part of the 4X400 relay team that won its event in a time of 3:23.11, along with Daniel Fretz and Dorian Crawford.
The Wolfpack men swept the top three spots in both the high jump and long jump and won the triple jump and 35-pound weight throw as well.
In the high jump, sophomore Kris Kornegay-Gober took first with a leap of 6-feet, 8 ¾ inches. Redshirt freshman Christian Council was second at 6-6 ¾, followed by junior Kwame Boatwright at 6-4 ¾.
In the long jump, fifth-year senior Lamont Savage won with a leap of 24-feet, ¼ inch, followed by Emmanuel Davis at 23-10 and Boatwright at 23-feet, 8¾ inch. Both Davis and Boatwright set new personal bests in the event.
Senior Travis Weston won the triple jump at 45-feet, 1 ½ inches.
Sophomore Grant Pearce won the weight throw with a distance of 60-feet, 7 ¾ inches, followed by freshman Nate Williams' third-place finish with a throw of 47-feet 6 ½ inches.
For the Wolfpack women, sophomore Karimah Shepherd won the long jump at 19-feet, 3 ½ inches and was fifth in the triple jump at 37 feet, 9 ¼ inches.
Henry's toss in the weight throw, 61 feet, 5 ¾, was her best of the season. She hit a mark of 41-feet, 10 inches in the shot put.
