Volleyball Scores Fourth-Straight Win

Wilmington, N.C. - NC State volleyball downed the hosting UNC Wilmington Seahawks in three sets at the UNCW Hilton Garden Inn Beach Bash Friday night in Wilmington, N.C. 25-22, 25-17, 25-19 to improve to 9-1 on the season.
Only ten games into the season, NC State has eclipsed their win mark from the 2009 season thanks to a four-game win streak over the last week that has included three consecutive 3-0 victories.
The Wolfpack offense registered 36 kills on the match, led by Luciana Shafer's total of nine. Shafer also led the team defensively by picking up 11 digs.
Margaret Salata had eight kills of her own and hit .615 in the outing.
Megan Cyr led the Pack in assists for the tenth time on the year, notching 27 against the Seahawks.
State faced a tough test in the early going. UNCW rallied from a four-point deficit to tie the opening game at 20-20, before NC State earned a 25-22 victory on Kelly Wood's service ace.
In the second set, the Wolfpack battled before returning to the form that has carried them throughout the 2010 season. With the score tied at 15, NC State ripped off a 10-2 run to close out the second frame. Over the final 12 points, Becah Fogle led the way with three kills, Shafer and Brie Merriwether added one each during the run, including the game-winner from Merriwether.
NC State opened the third set with six-straight points on kills from Margaret Salata, Shafer, Cyr, and a service ace from Salata. UNCW inched back into the game, tying it at 16, before State closed out with a 9-3 run.
Saturday, NC State will try to extend their four-game win streak with matches against Campbell and Elon, starting at 1:30 p.m. ET and 4:30 p.m. ET respectively.
