Volleyball Rebounds With Win Over Elon

Wilmington, N.C. - NC State bested Elon 3-0 to close their non-conference schedule on a high note Saturday night in Wilmington, N.C. at the UNCW Hilton Garden Inn Beach Bash.
The Wolfpack responded from a loss to Campbell earlier in the afternoon to finish the day 1-1 and improve to 10-2 on the season. The loss drops Elon to 7-8 on the year.
NC State won the match in straight sets by scores of 26-24, 25-16, and 29-27.
Becah Fogle led the team in kills with 12. Senior Alex Smith registered 11 in the game, giving her 26 over two games on Saturday.
Brie Merriwether and Margaret Salata contributed with eight kills each against Elon. Salata also picks up credit for the best hitting percentage on the team at .412 Saturday.
Kelly Wood and Luciana Shafer each posted double-figure digs in the nightcap. Wood made 17 digs in the win, with Shafer adding 13 of her own.
Megan Cyr notched 36 assists, bringing her team-leading total to 101 over the three-game tournament.
NC State showed resilience in the first and third sets, coming behind from a 24-23 deficit in both before taking 26-24 and 29-27 wins.
The first set saw Fogle come up with two timely kills on assists from Smith and Cyr to take a late lead for the Pack at 25-24.
In the second set, NC State fought back from a 9-5 deficit by scoring on 20 of the next 27 points.
With the final tournament of the year in the books for NC State, focus now turns to the conference slate, beginning next week with a Tuesday, September 21 match against in-state rival North Carolina. The Wolfpack will host the game, scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at Reynolds Coliseum.
