
Brooke Baker Finishes 15th at Cougar Classic

HANAHAN, S.C. - Senior Brooke Baker brought home a 15th place finish in the Pack's first tournament of the school year, as the NC State women's golf team concluded action at the Cougar Classic at the Yeamans Hall Golf Course in Hanahan, S.C. As a team, the Pack finished in 13th place, shooting 44-over (308-304-296=908) for the 54-hole tournament.
The Pack had its top team score of the tournament in Tuesday's final round, as NC State finished the day at eight-over (296), with four of the six Pack golfers competing posting their top round on Tuesday.
Brooke Baker finished as the Pack's top golfer for the tournament, as she finished in 15th place shooting a three-over (75-75-69=219). In her final round on Tueday, Baker had a six-shot improvement from each of her previous two rounds with a three-under (69). That score was the second-lowest of the day at the tournament, and also is just one stroke off the NC State school record for lowest score in a round.
Baker tallied four birdies on the day, with only one hole over par. She shot a two-under on her first nine holes, and finished strong with two birdies on her final four holes.
Sophomore Amanda Baker and freshman Ana Menendez each finished the three rounds at 12-over (228). Baker had her top round of the tournament on Tuesday, with a two-over (74), with two birdies including her first hole of the round. Menendez was five-over (77) in Tuesday's final round.
Freshman Brittany Marchand finished at 17-over (79-78-76=233). Her top score of the tournament also came on Tuesday, as she was at four-over (76) with one birdie.
Freshman Maureen Dunnagan shot a 26-over (79-80-83=242). She shot an 11-over (83) in the final round, but had a five-shot improvement on her final nine holes of the day compared to her first nine.
Sophomore Hayley Hammond, competing as an individual, had NC State's second-best round of the day and also the second-best score of the tournament. Haley finished the three rounds at eight-over (76-76-72=224), and shot an even-par (72) on Tuesday. She also had a team-high four birdies in the final round, including one on each of her final two holes.
North Carolina held the team lead throughout among the 21-team field, and the Tar Heels claimed an eight-stroke win by finishing four-under (860). Natalie Gleadall of Ole Miss claimed medalist honors, as she finished at five-under (211).
