Volleyball Downs Mercer 3-0

NC State volleyball utilized an all-around offensive attack to defeat Mercer in the Hilton RTP Invitational. The victory moves the Wolfpack to 7-1 on the season, but drops the Bears to 2-9.
For the second consecutive day, Becah Fogle and Margaret Salata paced the Wolfpack on offense, scoring 11 kills each. Luciana Shafer contributed seven to go along with three service aces, and freshman Anna Moore added five, a career-high. Megan Cyr dished out 38 assists to lead the Pack.
Defensively, Kelly Wood led the squad, gathering 13 digs in the match, while Alex Smith added nine.
The Pack jumped to an early 7-4 lead in the first set, before back-to-back NC State errors helped Mercer pull to within one point (11-10). The set was a back and forth battle, but the Pack prevailed, winning 25-20.
NC State began to settle in during the second set, dominating from the beginning, and eventually winning 25-12.
In the third set, the Wolfpack overcame a sluggish start to claim the victory 25-15.
The Pack returns to the court this afternoon, Sept. 11, to take on Morehead State in the final match of the Hilton RTP Invitational at 7:30 p.m.
