Ted Brown Named ACC Football Legend

RALEIGH, N.C. - Former NC State running back Ted Brown (1975-78) will be honored at this year's ACC Football Championship as one of the 2010 Dr. Pepper ACC Football Championship Game Legends, announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Brown is the only player in ACC history to be named first-team all-conference for four consecutive seasons. In 1978, Brown concluded his career ranked fourth on the NCAA's all-time rushing list. With a career-total of 4,602 yards, Brown remains the ACC's all-time leading rusher.
The High Point, N.C. native scored a conference-record 49 rushing touchdowns and holds NC State records for yards in a season (1,350), touchdowns (51), and longest run from scrimmage (95 yards vs. Syracuse, 1977). In 1977, Brown set an ACC single-game rushing record by totaling 251 yards against Penn St.
After being named a consensus All-American in 1978, Brown was selected 16th overall in the 1979 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. Brown tallied 4,546 yards rushing and 53 touchdowns over 104 games in eight years with the Vikings. He topped 1,000 yards in 1981, finishing the season with 1,063 yards on 274 carries and scoring six touchdowns.
On November 18, 1978, Brown's No. 23 jersey was retired by NC State. Brown was inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. In 2003, he was named to the ACC's 50th Anniversary Football Team. He now resides in Apple Valley, Minn.
