Norman, Okla. -
Rising senior Brooke Baker (Edmond, Okla.) of the NC State women’s golf team claimed a victory on the Collegiate Players Tour this past week. Baker won the event played at the Jimmie Austin/OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla., this past Tuesday and Wednesday.
For the 54-hole tournament, Baker finished at 2-over (218), and topped the field by two strokes. On the first day, Baker fired rounds of 73 and 71 to go into the clubhouse with the lead. In final round action Baker shot a 74, and used birdies on holes 16 and 18 to secure the win.
“It feels great to get this victory,” said Baker. “I had the lead after the first day, but struggled in the middle of the third round and was actually a stroke behind. But I sank a 20-foot birdie on No. 16, and got back into the lead.
“For me, this just makes all the hard work worth it. I changed by swing this summer, and this gives me confidence and encouragement going into my senior season at NC State.”
The Collegiate Players Tour, currently in its 17th year, is designed to provide summer golf competition for college-age men and women. Every effort is made to make the competition affordable, convenient, and above all, fun for the competitors. The CPT is sanctioned by both college golf associations, (men) Golf Coaches Association of America, and (women) National Golf Coaches Association, and the USGA. The Tour runs from the first week of June through the third week of August.
