RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State softball team will head to Tallahassee, Fla., for a three-game ACC set at No. 16 Florida State this weekend, April 10-11. Action will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday, with live stats available via GoPack.com.
Game one of Saturday's doubleheader will be broadcast live on television by Sun Sports (FSN).
The Wolfpack and Seminoles share third place in the conference standings, with each team owning 6-3 ACC records.
The Wolfpack trails in the all-time series, 7-12, having dropped six in a row.
NC State (23-15) is riding a four-game winning streak, with all victories coming within conference play. Last week the Pack swept a three-game series at home against Boston College after taking two of three at rival North Carolina over the previous weekend.
Landon Warren continues to lead the Pack at the plate with a .325 batting average, posting team highs in hits (37), runs (23) and doubles (6). Stephanie Call is tied for second amongst all conference players with 11 home runs, needing just two more to tie the all-time school record for dingers in a single season.
NC State has shown an affinity for the long ball this season, blasting 39 to date. That ranks third among all ACC teams, trailing only Georgia Tech (74) and North Carolina (41). Nine players have two or more home runs, and 10 different players have gone deep at least once. The Pack is 17-6 when at least one player goes yard.
Lindsay Campana continues to dominate for the Wolfpack, posting the best ERA (0.81) in the conference. She is second in strikeouts total (188) among conference pitchers despite being ninth on the appearance list with 22. Opposing batters are hitting just .173 against her, and her 16 earned runs allowed are the second fewest among ACC hurlers.
The Seminoles (34-7) have won 10 of its last 11 games, including a one-off game at UCF this past Wednesday and two of three at Maryland last weekend.
FSU has six day-to-day starters batting over .300, with Carly Wynn’s .398 leading the way on 53 hits, 15 doubles and 89 total bases wtih 20 steals in 22 attempts. Jen Lapicki has 30 RBIs and Tory Haddad has gone deep six times.
The Seminoles have used five pitchers on the year, but its doubtful that the Pack will face anyone other than Sarah Hamilton and Terese Gober. Hamilton carries a 17-4 record with a 0.98 ERA and 236 strikeouts in 142.2 innings of action, while Gober is 16-3 with a 1.51 ERA and 142 K’s in 116 frames of work.
NC State is certainly no stranger to playing games in Florida, holding a 37-34 all-time record in the Sunshine State. In 2004, the program’s inaugural year, the red and white went 2-7 in games played in Florida, following with a 2-3 performance in ‘05, an 8-4 showing in ‘06, an 8-5 clip in ‘07, an 8-10 slate in ‘08 and a 4-1 mark last year. So far this season NC State is 5-4 in Florida.
Next week the Pack will host East Carolina for a midweek doubleheader before heading back out on the road for an ACC series at Virginia over the weekend.
