Raleigh, N.C. - In his final home match, NC State's lone senior Frideric Prandecki wanted to go out with a bang. His 6-2, 6-4 victory over Brian Locklear helped lead the No. 50 Wolfpack to a 5-2 victory against Boston College. The win moves the Pack to 15-11 and 3-8 in the ACC, while dropping the Eagles to 10-14 and 0-11 in the ACC.
Prandecki took to the court for the first time this spring in ACC play and moved to 3-0 overall during the spring. "We were looking for a spark," said head coach Jon Choboy. "He's got a good serve and volley game. Most people at six singles don't see that. We wanted that energy and competitiveness that he gives us."
Doubles is Prandecki's strong suit and he showed it today. He teamed with Dominic Hodgson at No. 1 doubles and made quick work of Jonathan Schroeder and Alex Skinner, winning 8-4. The doubles win is Prandecki's 43rd in the fall and spring combined, which is good enough for ninth all-time at NC State.
The Eagles tied things when Akash Gujarati and Rob Lowe lost 8-5 to Adam Davison and Thomas Nolan. Fortunately for the Pack, Jaime Pulgar and Dave Thomson were in good form and beat Erik Kreutzer and Akash Muppidi 8-4 to gain the doubles point.
The Pack looked sharp in singles play. Rafael Paez took down Skinner in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2. No. 62 Pulgar dominated a recently surging No. 122 Muppidi, winning 6-0, 6-3. Gujarati clinched the victory for NC State by defeating Schroeder 6-1, 6-4.
The final two matches went to the Eagles. D. Thomson fell 6-4, 7-5 to Kreutzer. No. 111 Hodgson lost a hard fought match 4-6, 7-6 (9), (10-3).
With the regular season concluded the Wolfpack will get set for the ACC Tournament which begins Thursday, April 22 in Cary, N.C. The time and opponent will be announced later this week.
Choboy is happy with the perfomance thus far, but thinks there is always room for improvement.
"We have to learn to finish better," said Choboy. "I'd like to see us be even more resiliant, which I think we can do. We have had tremendous individual performances every match, but not as a whole team. We need to change that."
