Men's Golf Finishes Third in Wolfpack Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men’s golf team came away with a third place showing in its own Wolfpack Intercollegiate, played this weekend at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course on NC State’s Centennial Campus. The Pack finished at 20-over (294-291-287=872), with its best round of the tournament coming in Saturday’s final round (3-over, 287).
North Carolina took first place honors, winning by seven strokes after finishing at eight-over (298-280-282). Duke was second at 15-over (296-290-281=867).
Duke’s Adam Long earned individual medalist honors, as his birdie on No. 17 gave him the one-stroke win. Long finished the tournament at one-over (214), and shot a three-under (68) in the final round to finish one stroke better than four golfers.
NC State senior Adam Hogue had a career-best second place finish, just one stroke off the lead at two-over (215). Hogue used a team-high five birdies in the final round, and carded a three-under (68). He was two-under on the front-nine, and holed birdies on the final two holes of the tournament.
Junior Matt Hill finished in 15th place at six-over (219), while freshman Mitchell Sutton was eight-over (221). Also competing for the Pack, sophomore Mark McMillen was 15-over (228) and senior Brad Revell was 16-over (229).
NC State also entered five individuals in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
Junior Brandon Detweiler was the Pack’s highest finisher in that second group of five, as he finished at five-over (218) for the three rounds. In the final round on Saturday, Detweiler shot a one-over (72).
Senior Nathan Spoon finished in a tie for 22nd at eight-over (221), while classmate Hertzog Landman was 10-over (223). Senior Kent Copeland was 22-over (235), and sophomore Hunter Howell was 25-over (238).
The Pack will next be in action at the ACC Championship, being held April 23-25 in New London, N.C., at the Old North State Club.
