The NC State men's and women's track and field teams will open the 2010 outdoor season at the 49er Relays in Charlotte, N.C. Both teams got strong showings from their usual standouts and some impact freshman during the indoor season.
The women had a solid showing at the ACC Indoor Championships, with redshirt sophomore Lawanda Henry winning the ACC Indoor Championship in the weight throw, her second ACC title to go along with her ACC Outdoor Championship in the shot put as a freshman in 2009. Henry also finished second in the indoor shot put in 2010, earning All-ACC honors for that event as well.
Senior Kayla Lawson was second in the high jump at the ACC Championships to earn All-ACC accolades with the third-highest mark in school history.
Redshirt freshman Emily Pritt was All-ACC in the mile after a third-place finish at the indoor meet.
For the men, senior A'Tolani Akinkuotu was a 2010 NCAA Indoor All-American after a 10th-place finish in the 60m dash at the championship meet. His school-record time of 6.60 was the second-fastest time in the nation heading into the meet.
Akinkuotu finished second in the ACC Indoor Championships by a scant 0.01 seconds in setting that school record pace for the fourth time in his four seasons with the Pack. Akinkuotu earned All-ACC honors for his runner-up finish.
Senior John Martinez was ACC Indoor Champion in the 3,000m run and was second in the 5,000m for the second straight year to earn All-ACC honors in both events.
Kristopher Kornegay-Gober was All-ACC in the high jump as a true freshman, finishing third.
