Softball Beats Delaware State in Extras, 4-3

ROCK HILL, S.C. – NC State softball bested Delaware State, 4-3, in eight innings at the Winthrop/adidas Invitational on Saturday, March 13. The win moves the Wolfpack to 14-9 on the season, while the Hornets fall to 6-3.
Breanna Andrews hit two home runs, including the first of her career, while Alicia Abbott hit her second long ball of the season.
Lindsay Campana (9-3) got the win and tied her career high with 14 K’s, while Andrea Waters (5-4) was hit with the loss.
The Hornets grabbed two unearned runs in the bottom of the second. Jo Jo Shields reached on a misplayed bunt and Breanne Parr walked. Campana then struck out Chelsea Stern, but the third strike was dropped and the throw to first hit Stern running down the base path, allowing one run to score. Janelle Lukens then followed with an RBI single.
Andrews drove a 3-2 pitch over the wall in center for her first career homer in the top of the third, cutting Delaware State’s lead to 2-1.
Tawny Reeger pushed the Hornets lead back to two runs at 3-1 with a sac-fly in the bottom of the fourth.
Alicia Abbott clocked a solo shot to right to start the fifth, moving the score to 3-2.
Andrews went yard again in the top of the seventh, knotting the score at 3-all.
The Pack placed Katie Mansilla on second to start the top of the eighth, and Call immediately laced an RBI double just inside the third base line, giving NC State its first lead of the day at 4-3.
Action was halted for 12 minutes due to rain in the top of the fifth.
NC State will take on North Carolina A&T shortly.
