Swimming Begins Action at Triangle Cup

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Several student-athletes from NC State competed on the first day of the 2010 Triangle College Cup in nearby Chapel Hill on Saturday, Feb. 6. Jessica McBroom posted a top-10 all-time mark, while Jimmy Ross and Nick Schauer posted top-there times on the year.
McBroom recorded a 4:26.62 in the 400 IM, good for 10th all-time in school history. Erin Gray posted a 1:56.30 in the 200 freestyle, while Nancy Radloff added a 1:57.95. Katie Robinson (57.93) and Alli Hagan (58.22) finished in the top-10 in the 100 backstroke, while Kirsten Esplin (1:07.80) and Jessica Stewart (1:08.11) saw action in the 100 breaststroke. Esplin later swam a 5:05.81 in the 500 freestyle, while McBroom (58.68), Hagan (1:00.75) and Kayla Ricedorf (1:01.79) took part in the 100 butterfly. Amanda Panty (24.51), Chelsa Messinger (24.70), Radloff (24.70), Gray (24.98) and Hagan (25.13) all competed in the 50 freestyle.
Schauer’s 51.03 in the 100 backstroke is the fastest on the men’s team this season, while Facundo Monteiro added a 52.72. Ross also had a top-three time for the season, as his 4:05.99 in the 400 IM is the third quickest on the year. Ross (4:46.60) also swam the 500 freestyle, while Andrew Keenan (1:46.24) participated in the 200 freestyle.
Action will continue tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 7, on the final day of the 2010 Triangle College Cup in Chapel Hill.
