Men's Swimming Ends Action at ACC's

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – NC State men’s swimming hit three NCAA “B” cut qualifying standards and put up three top-10 all-time swims on Saturday, Feb. 27, during the final day of action at the ACC Championship.
Brandon Kingston hit a “B” cut and recorded the seventh-best 1650 freestyle in school history with a 15:24.24. Nick Brittis gave a 16:53.54.
Kevin Woodhull-Smith followed with another “B” cut, swimming the top 200 backstroke for the Wolfpack on the year with a 1:45.69. Ben Mechak’s 1:48.18 is second-best on the year and ninth-fastest all-time. Daniel Basler added a 1:53.88.
Gaites Brown (45.68), Travis Martinez (45.80), Conor Brennan (45.99), Kevin Vallario (46.15), Steven Wright (46.19) and Matt Voell (46.95) all saw action in the 100 freestyle, with Brown’s swimming clocking in at second-best this season.
Dan Forsythe recorded the fourth-best 200 breaststroke ever by a Wolfpack swimmer with a 2:00.49, while Greg Baskwell’s 2:02.09 is second on the year.
Mike Seiferth (1:49.65) and Sean Reams (1:49.78) put up the best two 200 butterfly swims for the season, while Mason (1:51.48) and Tyler Mills (1:52.77) gave strong efforts.
Martinez, Brennan, Brown and Kingston closed out the ACC Championship by recording the Pack’s best 400-freestyle relay for 2009-10 with a “B” cut time of 3:00.42. The 45.35 100 freestyle leadoff split by Martinez is the best mark this year.
NC State finished ninth with 169 points.
