Hill Leads Men's Golf at John Hayt Invite

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, FLA. – Playing its second tournament in a week, the NC State men’s golf team got off to a sluggish start in first round action at the John Hayt Collegiate Invitational this afternoon. The Pack is currently tied for 13th place, after shooting a 24-over (288) in first round action at the Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Junior Matt Hill was the Pack’s top golfer of the day, as he sits in 11th place after shooting a two-over (74) in the first round. Hill had three birdies on the day, and was one-over on both the front-nine and back-nine.
Fellow Canadian, freshman Mitchell Sutton, finished the round at six-over (78). Sutton was one-under on the front-nine, but shot seven-over on the back-nine. His day included a pair of birdies.
Sophomore Mark McMillen was close behind, after he shot a seven-over (79) on the first 18 holes of the tournament. McMillen had three birdies.
Senior Brad Revell finished the day at nine-over (81), while junior Brandon Detweiler was 11-over (83). Detweiler had a team-high four birdeis on the day.
North Florida holds the team lead after 18 holes, after shooting an even-par (288). John Byun of North Florida holds the overall lead by a stroke, as he shot a three-under (69) in first round action.
The second round will be played tomorrow, while the third round is set for Tuesday.
