Pack, Revell Both Finish 2nd at Mardi Gras Invite

Avondale, La. – Led by senior Brad Revell’s second place finish, the NC State men’s golf team brought home its own second place finish at the Mardi Gras Invitational in Avondal, La. The Pack finished three strokes off the lead in its first spring tournament of the season.
NC State had the lead after two rounds, but shot a team score of 298 in final round action, its worse score of the three rounds. The Pack finished at 873, and led the field with a total of 172 pars.
San Diego took home top honors, finishing with a three-round score of 870.
Revell was the Pack’s top golfer of the tournament. The senior finished in second place at three-under (213), after shooting a two-over (74) in the final round. Revell had a team-high 12 birdies for the three rounds.
Alex Ching of San Diego earned medalist honors with a six stroke win, finishing at nine-under (207).
Freshman Mitchell Sutton continues his strong rookie season, as he brought home his second top-10 finish in his first four tournaments. Sutton finished in eighth place at one-over (217). Sutton had 10 birdies in the three rounds.
Defending NCAA champion Matt Hill placed 13th at three-over (219). Sophomore Mark McMillen was 24th at eight-over (224), and senior Nathan Spoon placed 57th at 20-over (236).
The Pack will return to action the February 28-March 2 when the Pack travels to Ponte Vedra, Fla., to compete in the John Hayt Intercollegiate at the Sawgrass Country Club.
