RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State softball will open the home portion of its schedule this Wednesday, Feb. 17 against NC Central at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium on campus. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. Live stats will be available via GoPack.com.
The game was originally scheduled for 5 p.m., but has been changed to 4 p.m.
The meeting will be the first between the two programs.
Due to a scheduled welcoming reception for Chancellor-elect Woodson at Reynolds Coliseum, traffic congestion is a possibility. Fans are asked to park in the parking deck off of Cates Ave., entering the deck via Dunn Ave. or Jeter Dr.
NC State carries a 2-2 record after splitting four contests at the FIU Combat Classic this past weekend in Miami, Fla. The Wolfpack downed Providence (4-2) and North Florida (7-0), while falling to No. 20 UMass (1-0) and Illinois – Chicago (3-1).
Stephanie Call led the Pack at the plate this past weekend with four hits, including one home run and one double. Claudia Cooper, Alyssa Ishibashi and Landon Warren all added three hits, while Krystal Hawkins scored three runs and swiped three bags in as many attempts.
In the circle, a trio of Wolfpack pitchers allowed 19 hits in 25 innings. Lindsay Campana allowed just one earned run in 12 frames of work, and Morgan Peeler tossed four frames without allowing any hits or runs.
Wednesday’s tilt will serve as the season opener for NC Central. The Eagles scheduled doubleheader this past Saturday against Virginia State was cancelled due to inclement weather.
The game will serve as a homecoming of sorts for NC Central head coach Mike Charlton, a 1997 graduate of NC State. Charlton was a member of the Wolfpack football team from 1992-94.
NC State will hit the road again this weekend for the La Quinta Inn & Suites Tournament in Tampa, Fla. The Pack will take on North Dakota State, Hofstra, South Florida, Wright State and Michigan State.
