RICHMOND, Va. – Richmond outlasted a furious second-half comeback by NC State to record an 81-75 win over the Wolfpack Saturday afternoon at Robins Center.
Sophomore Marissa Kastanek led four double-digit scorers for NC State (2-2) with 19 points. Amber White added 16 points, Bonae Holston posted her second double-double of the year with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and Brittany Strachan added 12.

The game amounted to a tale of two completely different halves of basketball. After giving up 52 points in the first half, and trailed by 15 points going into halftime, NC State clamped down its defense to rally back to make it a one-possession game in the final minutes.
The Pack came out of intermission with a 15-4 run to cut its deficit to 56-52 with 16:20 to play. Kastanek led the way with five of those early second-half points.
Puthoff-King’s layup with just under seven minutes left gave Richmond a 74-66 lead.
NC State answered with a bucket from Strachan to make it 76-73 with 2:47 left. Kastanek drew an offensive foul to get NC State the ball back with a chance to tie the game for the first time all afternoon, but Emili Tasler missed a three pointer.
Strachan drew a second offensive foul. After a timeout, Kastanek drove the lane but left her layup short.
Shells drained a corner jumper at the other end for a 78-73 lead, but NC State’s White found Strachan wide open underneath the basket for a layup and it was a 78-75 game with 23.3 seconds to play.
NC State called timeout to setup its defense, but Shells broke free of the Wolfpack’s press and laid the ball in for an 80-75 lead with 19 ticks left on the clock.
The Wolfpack outscored Richmond 38-29 in the second half, and shot an efficient 50.0 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes.
Richmond came out hot right from the get go, converting its first 10-of-11 shots to grab a 24-12 advantage six and half minutes into the first half. Oliver had 10 quick points for the Spiders.
The track meet continued, with Richmond holding to a 31-22 advantage at the 9:35 mark of the first half.
The Wolfpack cut the lead down to six after a second three-pointer by Kastanek capped a 10-5 spurt by the visitors, leaving the Pack down just 29-22.
The lead grew back to 10 for the Spiders, but a Lakeesa Daniel turnaround made it 40-32.
