RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State men's golf team remains among the nation's elite with less than two weeks left in the Division I fall schedule.
NC State finds itself in the top 25 according to all three major ranking systems - No. 19 in the Golf World/Nike Golf men's coaches' poll, No. 20 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings and No. 22 by Golfstat.
Freshman Albin Choi stands 30th in the Golfstat Cup Standings. The Toronto, Canada, native won back-to-back events in a span of six days to highlight his first action in Raleigh. He won the Wolfpack Intercollegiate at Lonnie Poole Golf Course on Oct. 5, and finished atop the field at Duke's Rod Myers Invitational on Oct. 11.
Senior Brandon Detweiler is 40th in the standings, while sophomore Mitchell Sutton is 86th.
In the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings system, Choi is 59th, Detweiler comes in at No. 75, and Sutton is 108th.
The Wolfpack finished its four fall tournaments three weeks ago. It was an impressive autumn that saw the club win two tournaments, and finish second in two others.
The Pack won its season opener at The Invitational at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, S.C., by six strokes over runner-up Notre Dame. All six players finished in the top-20 among a field of 72 golfers.
After a second-place showing at the Golfweek Conference Challenge in Burlington, Iowa, NC State defended its home course by winning the Wolfpack Intercollegiate by four shots over Duke.
And for the second time in less than a month, the Pack finished second to Iowa. This time it came at the Rod Myers Invitational to complete its fall slate.
In other golf news related to NC State, the aforementioned Choi competed for Team Canada at the 2010 World Amateur Team Championship in Argentina. The three-man team finished tied for eighth among a field of 69 countries.
Choi became the fifth player from NC State to compete in the WATC - joining Tim Clark (South Africa), Fernando Mechereffe (Brazil), Carl Pettersson (Sweden), and Bill Swartz (Canada).
NC State's spring campaign commences at the Puerto Rico Classic from Rio Mar Golf Club. The 54-hole event takes place Feb. 20-22 in Rio Grande, P.R.
