Volleyball Swept by Duke

NC State volleyball fell Saturday, Oct. 9 to Duke in Durham, N.C. The loss drops the Wolfpack to 12-7 overall and 2-5 in ACC play, elevating the Blue Devils to 15-2 and 7-0 in conference play.
Luciana Shafer paced the Pack’s offensive attack, scoring 12 kills in the match to go along with four digs. Margaret Salata chipped in seven kills and two assisted blocks, while Elena Frac added six kills and nine digs.
Kelly Wood and Alex Smith notched double-digit dig performances with 14 and 12 respectively. Megan Cyr dished out 29 assists, once again leading the squad, and landed the Pack’s only service ace in the match.
NC State competed throughout the entire first set, earning its first lead at 10-8 following a Elena Frac kill. The score continued to bounce back and forth, including eight more ties from that point, before Duke pulled away to win the set 25-20.
In the second set, Duke jumped out to a 5-1 lead, but the Pack fought back to knot the score 7-7. Unlike in the first set, the squad never held a lead, and lost 25-20.
After a 4-4 tie in the third set, Duke scored five straight points, to earn a 9-4 lead. Following a Brie Merriwether kill, NC State pulled within four, but was never able to get any closer, eventually losing the set 25-13.
The Wolfpack returns to action next weekend, traveling to Clemson, S.C. on Friday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m to take on Clemson, and Atlanta, Ga. to battle Georgia Tech Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be available on Gametracker.
