Choi Takes Aim at First Collegiate Victory

RALEIGH, N.C. - Albin Choi fired a second round 66 (-5) to take command of first place at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate on the par-71, 7,358 yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course, Monday.
Choi opened the day with a 69 (-2) giving him a total of 135 (-7) for a three shot 36-hole lead. Patrick Pelletier of Rhode Island was the only golfer to best Choi's 66 by posting a 65 (-6) over the final 18.
If Choi can maintain his lead tomorrow, the freshman from Toronto, Canada will capture his first collegiate victory.
The Wolfpack settled into second place of 17 teams at the end of day one by posting rounds of 285-276--561 (-7). Duke holds the overall team lead at 558 (-10) heading into the final round.
A pair of NC State golfers also posted rounds in the 60s during Monday's second round. Mark McMillen carded a 68 (-3) to move into a tie for 11th, while Brandon Detweiler's 69 (-2) helped him nab a share of sixth.
Mitchell Sutton's 73-73--146 (+4) placed him in 32nd on Monday. Graham Baillargeon's 75-76--151 (+10) earns him a share of 68th entering Tuesday's final round.
Playing as an individual, Chad Day recorded scores of 69-73--142 (E) to climb into the top-20. James Chapman and Hunter Howell also took to the links as individuals. Chapman finished the day in a tie for 50th. Howell finished 88th.
The 2010 Wolfpack Intercollegiate features three of NC State's Atlantic Coast Conference foes: Duke, Maryland, and Wake Forest. With 36 holes in the books, NC State trails only Duke, leads Maryland by four shots, and Wake Forest by six.
