Volleyball Defeated by Maryland

NC State volleyball was defeated 3-1 by Maryland Friday, Oct. 29. The loss drops the Wolfpack to 12-12 overall and 2-10 in ACC play, and brings the Terrapins to 16-8 in the 2010 season and 7-5 in the conference.
Luciana Shafer scored her fifth double-double of the season, notching 12 kills and 14 digs in the match to pace the Pack both offensively and defensively. Margaret Salata also scored 12 kills while pacing the squad, hitting at a .550 clip.
Megan Cyr dished out 38 assists to lead the Wolfpack offense.
In the first set, Maryland jumped out to a 16-13 before NC State head coach Bryan Bunn called the Pack’s first timeout. The squad responded, tying the set 19-19 and continued to battle, taking the lead 23-22. The Wolfpack took the set 25-23.
NC State’s offense sputtered in the second frame, hitting at a .172 clip. After falling behind 12-8, the Pack dropped the set 25-19.
The offense continued to struggle in the third set, earning only six kills on 18 attempts, eventually falling by a score of 25-13.
In the final set, the Wolfpack jumped ahead before a series of Maryland five-point runs shut them down. The squad dropped the game 25-15.
