
Ellington Tied atop Leaderboard at Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. - After first round action at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C., NC State redshirt-freshman Caroline Ellington sits in a tie for first place after shooting a 2-under 70 on Friday.
Ellington's round included a team-high seven birdies on the day. She was consistent throughout her round, as she was 1-under on both her first nine holes and second nine holes.
As a team, the Wolfpack is in seventh place at 13-over 301. The weekend's field has 15 of the 18 teams ranked in the top-50 according to Golfstat.com, and nine teams in the top-25. NC State is currently ahead of nine ranked teams after first round action.
Senior Brooke Baker also currently sits in the top-20, as she is 12th after her round of 1-over 73. Baker had three birdies on the day, and was 2-under on her first nine holes.
Freshmen Brittany Marchand and Ana Menendez each shot a 7-over 79. Marchand improved as the day went on, as she was 7-over on her first nine holes, but went even-par on her second nine holes including birdies on two of the final three holes.
Sophomore Amanda Baker shot a 12-over 84 in the first round.
Duke and Texas currently sit atop the team leaderboard, as both squads shot a 3-over 291. Kim Donovan of Duke and Katherine Perry of North Carolina are also tied with Ellington for the individual lead at 2-under 70.
Second round action will take place on Saturday, while the third round will be played on Sunday. Live stats are available at Golfstat.com.
