WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - For the second straight ACC game, the NC State men's soccer team came away with a draw. Saturday night at Wake Forest, the Wolfpack (5-6-2, 0-4-2 ACC) notched the equalizer in the 65th minute to earn a tie with the Demon Deacons (5-6-2, 3-1-1 ACC).
The Pack had the game's first shot on goal, when freshman Gbengha Makinde fired a shot from 20 yards out, but Wake Forest's Akira Fitzgerald came up with the save in the fifth minute.
Wake Forest came right back down on offense, as Danny Wenzel had back-to-back chances in the eighth minute, including one header that was cleared off the Pack's goal line by a NC State defender.
The Demon Deacons broke through on the scoreboard in the 25th minute, as Luca Gimenez curled a shot from 16 yards out into the Wolfpack net at the 24:10 mark.
Seniors Tyler Lassiter and Chris Zuerner also recorded shots on goal in the first half, and despite out-shooting Wake Forest 7-5 in the first 45 minutes, the Pack was down 1-0 at the half.
In the second half, Makinde once again had a look at goal when he split the Wake Forest defense and fired a shot in the 55th minute, but Fitzgerald turned his shot away.
NC State tied up the game in the 65th minute. Sophomore David Brown found the back of the net for the second time this season, off of a Lassiter assist, at the 64:32 mark.
Pack senior Akil DeFreitas had a pair of chances in the first overtime, Fitzgerald saved one shot and a second shot just went over the crossbar in the 99th minute.
In the second overtime, each team recorded only one shot.
After two straight road games, NC State will return to home action Wednesday night when the Pack will host Coastal Carolina at 7:00 p.m. at the Dail Soccer Field.
