Cozzarelli Leads Mile Dominance at Carolina Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - Andie Cozzarelli won the mile and three of her NC State women's track and field teammates also finished in the top-7 as the Wolfpack compete at the Carolina Classic. The event - originally scheduled for two days - had the Saturday portion cancelled after inclement weather in the area.
Cozzarelli ran a personal-best 5:01.03 to take the title, shaving almost four seconds off of her previous best.
Lawanda Henry led four Wolfpack women in the weight throw with a first place finish with a distance of 60'06.75. Jessica Sanders was second, Brittany McCain was sixth and Tiana Thorpe turned in a career-best mark and an eighth place finish.
Erin Mercer - in her first collegiate meet for the Wolfpack track team - finished second in the mile with a 5:08.34. Lauren Bishop (4th; 5:14.70) and Lauren Doherty (7th; 5:17.25) also competed for the Wolfpack for the first time in their careers.
Tiayonna Blackmon was second in the 1,000m with a 2:58.77;
Marika Walker was fourth in the 500m with a 1:19.54.
Paige Eley was strong with a fifth place finish in the 300m and she also competed in the 60m dash prelims.
Karimah Shepherd had a career-best mark in the triple jump with a 38'02.00".
Gabrielle Daniel was ninth in the 300m.
