No. 52 M. Tennis Takes Down Gardner-Webb

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's tennis team took the court for the first time this spring against Gardner-Webb. It proved a successful opening day for the Wolfpack, winning 7-0.
The Pack started off the day sweeping the doubles matches to gain a 1-0 lead. The No. 1 doubles team of Dave Thomson and Dominic Hodgson won a close contest, 8-6, over Evgeny Slesarev and Rafael Altmayer of Gardner-Webb.
Rob Lowe and Frideric Prandecki paired up at the No. 2 slot to take down Adam Knutsson and Andrew Veeder, 8-1. The No. 3 duo of Akash Gujarati and David Chermak won 8-5, over Jeremie Tardif and Matt Parker.
With singles play under way, D. Thomson got the first win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Knutsson. Trailing after the first set, Hodgson had a nice comeback win over Slesarev, 0-6, 6-4, 6-4. Lowe took down Veeder, 6-4, 6-3.
Newcomer Rafael Paez got his first action since arriving from Brazil this past week, defeating Altmayer 6-3, 6-3. Gujarati won easily, 6-0, 6-1 over Matt Herrock. Fernando Banos closed out the day by defeating Tardiff, 6-1, 4-6, (10-3).
The Pack will take the court again at 5:00 pm today against North Carolina Central.
