Men's Golf Brings Home Impressive Fourth Place Finish

BREMERTON, Wash. – The NC State men’s golf team brought home a fourth place finish at the Ping-GolfWeek Preview held at Bremerton, Wash., widely considered the top collegiate tournament of the fall season. The Wolfpack sat in sixth place after the first two rounds, but fired its best team score of the tournament, a 295, on Monday and finished at 29-over (893).
Oklahoma State ran away with the tournament, as they were the only team to finish under par at two-under (862). Host Washington was second at 20-over (884), followed by Arizona State in third at 25-over (889).
Junior Matt Hill was the Pack’s top finisher for the tournament. Hill finished in a tie for 12th place, as he shot a six-over (222) for the three rounds. In final round action, Hill was three-over (75).
Senior Hertzog Landman had the most impressive showing for the Pack in the third round, as he shot a one-under (71), the second-best round among all golfers. Landman’s strong round shot him up from 41st place entering the round, to his 19th place finish at seven-over (223).
In addition to winning the team title, Oklahoma State had the top three individual finishers. Only two golfers finished under par, as Peter Uihlein won medalist honors, as he finished at five-under (211).
A total of 15 teams participated in the three-round tournament at the 7,152-yard, par-72 Olympic Course at Gold Mountain. In addition to the host No. 3 Washington, four others ranked in Golfweek's preseason top-10 will be present, including No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Texas A&M, No. 5 Arizona State and No. 9 Alabama. Also in the field are No. 12 Louisiana State, No. 14 Texas Christian, No. 16 USC, No. 23 Colorado State, No. 26 North Carolina State and No. 29 UNLV. The remaining teams participating are Chattanooga, Indiana, Kent State and New Mexico.
