Nagaraj Wins First Two Matches at UVA Invite

Charlottesville, Va. - The NC State women's tennis team completed the first day of the University of Virginia Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. Seven members of the Wolfpack played in singles competition during the day.
Sophomore Sandhya Nagaraj won both of her matches beating Molly Scott, 6-3, 6-0, and later defeating Vierra of Virginia, 7-5, 6-1. Senior Berkeley Brock, ranked No. 83 in the country, won her first match, 7-5, 1-6, 6-2, against Hana Tomljanovic of Virginia. In her second match of the day, Brock fell short to No. 116 Nadine Fahoum of Old Dominion, 6-4, 6-4.
Sophomore Diana Mortlock lost in her opening match, 6-2, 6-1, to Deanna Bailey of Marshall. Mortlock rebounded in her next match defeating Maria Fuccillo of Virginia, 6-0, 6-3. Freshman Tana Illova lost in her first match, 6-4, 6-4, to Lauren Sabacinski of William and Mary. Freshman Chloe Smith took down Valerie Behr of UNC Greensboro, 6-3, 6-2, in her first match. Smith then lost to Catherine Kellner of Marshall, 6-1, 6-3.
Sophomore Pender Sessoms took the court for the first time this season losing to Anik Cepeda, 6-0, 6-2. In her second match, Sessoms was defeated, 6-4, 6-2, by Jeri Reichel of Dartmouth. Sophomore Ashley Miller made her debut for the Wolfpack, beating Christina Danosi of Dartmouth, 6-2, 6-3. Miller then fell short, 6-3, 6-3, to Neela Vaez of Virginia.
Doubles competition will begin on Saturday, Sept. 19, with singles competition continuing.
