Men's Golf Starts Season with Third Place Showing

CAMBRIDGE, MD. – Led by three golfers who finished in the top-10, the NC State men’s golf team brought home a third place finish in its first tournament of the 2009-10 season. The Wolfpack as a team finished at six-over (858) at the Maryland Intercollegiate, played this past weekend in Campbridge, Md.
A pair of Pack golfers tied for NC State’s top finish on the weekend. Senior Brad Revell (70-69-73=212) and freshman Mitch Sutton (69-68-75=212) each finished in a tie for fifth place at one-under par. Junior Matt Hill also brought home a top-10 finish, as he was alone in 10th place at one-over par (74-70-70=214).
Senior Hertzog Landman finished at nine-over (73-75-74=222), and classmate Kent Copeland was 18-over par (74-73-84=231). Sophomore Mark McMillen competed as an individual, and he shot a 16-over par (77-73-79=229).
North Carolina took top team honors, as the Tar Heels shot a three-under (849) to hold off VCU by one stroke. North Carolina’s Henry Zaytoun and Virginia’s Ben Kohles tied for individual medalist honors, as they both shot a seven-under (206).
The Wolfpack will return to action September 27-28, traveling to Bremerton, Wash., and competing in the PING – GolfWeek Preview, one of the top fall collegiate tournaments.
