Men's Golf Claims Victory at Big 4 Challenge

DURHAM, N.C. The NC State men’s golf team claimed a 3 and 2 win over Wake Forest, and won the Big 4 Challenge played this afternoon at the Treyburn Country Club (par 72, 7,070 yards). The Wolfpack, Wake Forest, Duke and North Carolina competed in stroke play in the morning session, which NC State won by nine strokes, and later downed the Demon Deacons in match play in the afternoon.
NC State posted the low team score in the morning stroke play portion of the event with a 369, nine shots better than second place Wake Forest. North Carolina shot 382, while Duke had a 383 in cold and rainy conditions throughout the morning. The stroke play round was played in a 5 count 5 format with all five team members counting towards the team score. Standard format is a 5 count 4.
Matt Hill of NC State shot a two-under 70 to win stroke play medalist honors, with teammate Brad Revell finishing two shots back.
Hill and Revell each posted 3 and 2 wins in the match play to help guide NC State to the team title. Darren Blair also posted a win for the Wolfpack with a 1 up win in 20 holes over Brendan Gielow.
The Pack return to action May 14-16 at the NCAA Central Regional at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky., as the No. 3 seed.
