No. 62 Virginia Tech Sweeps Women's Tennis

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The NC State women's tennis team fell to No. 62 Virginia Tech, 7-0, in Blacksburg, Va. on Friday, April 10. NC State falls to 4-16(1-9 ACC), and the Hokies improve to 12-10 (2-8 ACC).
Virginia Tech won two of the three doubles matches to take the early point. Senior Neils Barringer and freshman Diana Mortlock fell to Martha Blakely and Inga Beermann, 8-0, at No. 2, and Abbey Walker and Yasmin Hamza defeated junior Berkeley Brock and freshman Pender Sessoms, 8-4, at No. 3. Junior Daria Petrovic and sophomore Lenka Hojckova defeated Jessica Brouwer and Holly Johnson, who are ranked 55th nationally, 8-7(7), at No. 1.
Hamza defeated Barringer, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 singles, and Petrovic fell to Blakely, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 3. Johnson secured the Hokies win with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Sessoms at No. 6 singles. Mortlock pushed her match to a third set, but fell 5-7, 6-2, 1-0(10-6), at No. 5 to Courtney Rauscher. Hojckova, who is 104th nationally in singles, fell to Beermann, 6-2, 7-6, at No. 1, and No. 113 Brock fell to Brouwer, 7-6, 3-6, 1-0(10-3) at the second doubles spot.
The Pack will finish its regular season with a match against Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. on Sunday, April 12.
