No. 12 Clemson Defeats Women's Tennis

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team fell to No. 12 Clemson, 7-0, on Saturday, March 28, in Raleigh, N.C. at the JW Isenhour Tennis Center. The loss moves the Pack to 4-12 (1-5 ACC), and the Tigers improve to 13-5 (5-1 ACC).
Clemson won the doubles point after sweeping all three doubles matches. Alexandra Luc and Estefania Balda defeated junior Daria Petrovic and freshman Pender Sessoms, 8-4, at No. 3. Junior Berkeley Brock and sophomore Lenka Hojckova, who are ranked 45th nationally played the 8th-ranked team of Ani Mijacika and Keri Wong. Brock and Hojckova stayed even with the Tiger pair throughout most of the match, but Mijacika and Wong won the final two games to secure the doubles point with an 8-6 win at No. 1. Senior Neils Barringer and freshman Diana Mortlock fell to the 36th-ranked duo of Josipa Bek and Ina Hadziselimovic, 8-4, at No. 2.
Sophomore Jackie Ussery fell to Luc, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6 singles, and the 114th-ranked singles player, Hadzieselimovic defeated Barringer, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4.
The top-ranked player in the nation, Mijacika, beat 99th-ranked Hojckova, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1 to seal the win.
The rain started pouring, moving the last three singles inside for the remainder of their matches. Mortlock fell to No. 102 Wong, 6-1, 7-5, and Petrovic battled into a third set, but fell 6-0, 1-6, 7-5, to No. 95 Balda at the third singles spot.
Brock and the tenth-ranked Bek went into a tie-break game in both sets. Bek emerged with the win, 7-6(5), 7-6(2), at No. 2
The Pack will host its final home match of the season as the team takes on No. 6 Georgia Tech in Raleigh at 1 p.m. The match will also serve as Senior Day for Neils Barringer.
