Weinacker Earns 100th Win, M. Tennis Beats BC

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - NC State men's tennis senior Jay Weinacker earned his 100th career singles win as the No. 42 Pack defeated Boston College, 4-3, in Chestnut Hill, Mass. on Friday, March 20. The Pack continued its undefeated streak over the Eagles after dropping the doubles point and battling back to win four singles matches. The win was the second ACC win of the season for NC State and improve the Pack to 8-7 (2-1 ACC). Boston College falls to 10-5 (0-4 ACC).
The Eagles won the doubles point after winning matches at the No. 1 and No. 3 slots. The No. 59 doubles team of Erik Kreutzer and Thomas Nolan defeated No. 79 Weinacker and freshman Jaime Pulgar, 8-2, at No. 1. Senior Christian Welte and redshirt freshman Julian Sullivan defeated Alex Skinner and Brian Garber, 8-3 at No. 2. Adam Davison and Akash Muppidi took down sophomore Rob Lowe and freshman Justin Jendruch, 8-4, at No. 3.
Weinacker earned his 100th career win by beating Nolan, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1. Welte earned his 86th career singles win, tying him for third in program history, with a victory over Kreutzer, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 2.
Muppidi defeated Pulgar in the third set, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, at No. 3, and senior Derek Stephens fell at No. 4 to Alex Skinner, 6-2, 6-2. Sullivan beat Alex Rastorgouev, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 5, and freshman Akash Gujarati took down Brian Locklear, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 6.
The Pack continues its road trip with a match against Maryland on Sunday, March 22, in College Park, Md.
