No. 47 Women's Tennis Falls to No. 17 UNC

RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 47 NC State women's tennis team lost to No. 17 North Carolina, 7-0, on Friday, Feb. 6, in Raleigh, N.C. at the JW Isenhour Tennis Center. The Tarheels swept the doubles matches and then all six singles matches to secure the ACC win. The Pack falls to 1-4 (0-1 ACC) and the Tarheels improve to 5-0 (1-0 ACC) on the season.
North Carolina earned the early lead after sweeping all three doubles matches. The No. 15 nationally ranked pair of Sanaz Marand and Sophie Grabinski defeated junior Berkeley Brock and sophomore Lenka Hojckova, 8-0, at No. 1, and Laura Reichert and Haley Hemm took down freshman Pender Sessoms and sophomore Jackie Ussery, 8-2, at No. 3. Senior Neils Barringer and freshman Diana Mortlock fell to Shinann Featherston and Austin Smith, 8-4, at No. 2.
Jelena Durisic defeated Barringer, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 3, and Brock fell to No. 103 Smith, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2. No. 83 Featherston earned the win for the Tarheels, taking down Mortlock, 6-1, 7-6(8-6) at No. 4.
No. 87 Hojckova fell to No. 47 Marand, 6-2, 7-5, at No. 1, and Sessoms lost to Reichert, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5. Hemm defeated Ussery, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6.
The Pack will next face Winthrop on Feb. 14 at 1 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C.
