Men's Golf Places Sixth in First Spring Tournament

HOUSTON, TEXAS The NC State men’s golf team came home with a sixth place finish in its first tournament of the spring season, competing in the Rice Intercollegaite. The Wolfpack finished at 22-over (886) for the three rounds, after a 296 in Tuesday’s final round. Pacific took the team title, finishing 10-over (874).
Sophomore Matt Hill was the Pack’s top finisher placing sixth overall. After two rounds of even-par yesterday, Hill shot a one-over (73) today, and finished at one-over (217) for the three rounds.
Ji Hwan Park of San Francisco took the individual title, as he was six-under (210).
Senior Darren Blair finished in a tie for 25th, finishing at seven-over (223). Blair was five-over (77) in Tuesday’s action.
A pair of Pack players improved in today’s final round from yesterday’s scores. Kent Copeland and Brandon Detweiler each tied for 10-over (226) for the tournament. Copeland improved two strokes with a one-over (73), while Detweiler had a four shot improvement with his two-over (74) today.
Chad Day was close behind, as he shot an 11-over (227) for the tournament.
The Pack will return to action February 27-March 1, competing in the Puerto Rico Classic in Rio Grande.
