RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men’s golf team continues to impress on the course, as two tournaments into the 2009-10 season, the Pack has found itself with one of its highest national rankings in recent memory.
The Wolfpack is ranked No. 13 by Golfstat.com with an adjusted score of 73.31, and also checks in at No. 16 according to the most recent Golf World/Nike Golf men’s coach’s poll.
NC State started its fall campaign with a third place showing at the Maryland Intercollegiate in early September, and more recently brought home a fourth place showing at the prestigious PING-GolfWeek Preview earlier this week. NC State has now finished fifth or better in eight straight tournaments dating back to last season.
The PING-GolfWeek Preview featured five teams ranked in the top-10, and a total of 11 of the 15 teams ranked overall. Thus far, NC State has posted a record of 23-5 if you competed head-to-head, but more impressively the Pack has gone 4-4 against top-25 quads and is 12-5 against teams in the top-50 overall.
After its two tournaments, NC State’s schedule is ranked the 25th hardest among the 278 Division I college teams.
The Pack will have one more fall tournament, when NC State will travel to Johnson City, Tenn., to compete in The Ridges Intercollegiate October 16-18.
