No. 36 Women's Tennis Falls to Old Dominion

RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 36 NC State women's tennis team fell to Old Dominion, 5-2, on Saturday, Jan. 24, in Raleigh, N.C. The Pack was able to sweep the doubles matches, but was only able to win one of the singles bouts. NC State falls to 1-1 on the season, and Old Dominion improves to 3-2.
The Pack opened up the day sweeping the doubles matches. Junior Berkeley Brock and sophomore Lenka Hojckova defeated the No. 40 nationally ranked doubles duo of Charleen Haarhoff and Nadine Fahoum, 8-3, at No. 1. Senior Neils Barringer and freshman Diana Mortlock secured the doubles point and early lead for the Pack with an 8-6 win over Joanna Dobrowolska and Margarita Spicin at No. 2. Junior Daria Petrovic and freshman Pender Sessoms capped off the sweep with an 8-6 win over Irina Dementyeva and Marija Citic at No. 3.
Petrovic had to forfeit during the second set due to injury, giving Spicin the 6-3, 1-0 ret., singles win at No. 4. No. 87 Hojckova grabbed the Pack's first singles victory of the afternoon, defeating No. 88 Haarhoff, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 2. Barringer fell to Dobrowolska, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 3, bringing the match to a tie at 2-2.
Brock fell to Fahoum, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1, and Dementyeva clinched the win for Old Dominion with a 6-4, 6-2, win over Mortlock at No. 5. Sessoms fell to Citic, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 6.
The Pack will head to the National Team Indoor Championships in Berkeley, California on Jan. 31 through Feb. 1, competing against Washington on the first day and then either UC Berkeley or Long Beach State on the second day.
