Swimming & Diving Heads to Clemson

RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will return to ACC action tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 24, at Clemson. Competition begins at 11 a.m., with ACC Select offering a live video feed.
The Wolfpack women (5-3 / 2-3 ACC) topped Campbell 150-99 earlier in the week at Casey Natatorium. The Pack men (4-2 / 2-2 ACC) were scheduled to take on East Carolina, along with the women’s squad, this past Tuesday, but the Pirates backed out.
Austin Hampton was named ACC men’s swimming and diving performer of the week this past Monday after nailing a new school and pool record 393.60 in the 3-meter dive against Georgia Tech. Hampton has hit NCAA qualifying standards in both the 3-meter and 1-meter dives, as has Alex Dambly. On the women’s side, Kristin Davies has qualified for NCAA diving zones in both the 3- and 1-meter dives, while Chelsea Ale has also qualified in the 3-meter.
Four new individual school records have been set this season between the men’s and women’s teams, with Mason McGee (500 freestyle), Hampton (3-meter dive) and Erica Smith (100-, 200 backstroke) all getting in on the action. Smith, Anna Linkenauger, Patrice Dason and Ashley Richter also set a new women’s school record in the 400 medley relay.
The men’s team has also combined for 17 top-10 scores/times in the ACC, while the women have contributed six.
The Clemson men’s squad carries a 2-6 (0-5 ACC) record, while the women stand at 4-4 (2-3 ACC).
Following Saturday’s bout the Pack will resume action on Tuesday, Feb. 3 when rival North Carolina comes to Casey Natatorium for a 5 p.m. start.
