No. 49 Men's Tennis Sweeps Seahawks

RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 49 NC State men's tennis team opened up the spring season with a 7-0 win over UNC Wilmington on Wednesday, Jan. 14, in Raleigh, N.C. The Wolfpack swept all three doubles matches, and followed up with six straight singles wins. The Pack is now 1-0 on the season, and the Seahawks fall to 0-1.
NC State opened up the day with two quick doubles wins. Senior Jay Weinacker and freshman Jaime Pulgar took down Illia Ziamtsou and Ryan Ybarra, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles. Junior Frideric Prandecki and freshman Justin Jendruch secured the doubles point for NC State with an 8-1 decision over Alex Wetherell and Anton Nikolov at No. 3. Senior Christian Welte and redshirt freshman Julian Sullivan followed suit with an 8-6 victory over Gustavo Bertei and Kinshuk Sharma at No. 1.
Pulgar opened up singles play with a swift defeat of Sharma, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 4, and No. 56 Weinacker took down Bertei, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1. Senior Derek Stephens clinched the win for the Pack with a 6-2, 6-3, victory over Ybarra at No. 3.
No. 125 Welte defeated Ziamtsou, 7-5, 6-1, at No. 2, and Sullivan took down Nikolov, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6. Chermak rounded out the singles wins with a 6-2, 7-6(7), win over Wetherell at No. 5.
The Pack will face Penn State on Sunday, January 18, at noon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C.
