DURHAM, N.C. No. 9 Duke posted a 3-0 win over NC State in ACC women’s soccer action Sunday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium.
Duke (9-1-1, 1-0-1 ACC) got on the scoreboard midway through the first half when KayAnne Gummersall scored her seventh goal of the season at 29:01. She one-touched a lob pass from Ashley Rape.
Carey Goodman added an unassisted tally at 43:02 to send the Blue Devils up 2-0 at halftime.
That second goal seemed to spark the Wolfpack as the visitors mounted its best attack of the first stanza. First it was a shot by Briana Cunningham off the ensuing face off. Just over a minute later ACC-leading scorer Lindsay Vera put a shot on net that Cassidy Powers corralled just seconds before intermission.
Vera later put another touch towards goal in the 70th minute, but Powers again hauled in the save.
Duke sealed its victory when Gummersall found Cody Newman and she beat Wolfpack keeper Kim Kern one-on-one in the 76th minute for her fourth marker of the year.
Kern, a freshman from Raleigh, made seven saves in 90 minutes of work. For Duke, Powers made three saves for her second clean sheet of the week.
NC State (8-3, 0-1 ACC) visits Virginia on Thursday at 7 pm in Charlottesville.
