RALEIGH, N.C. - Former NC State All-American golfers Tim Clark and Carl Pettersson are preparing to compete in the final round of the PGA Tour Playoffs, also known as The Tour Championship Presented by Coca-Cola. The four rounds will take place this weekend at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia.
Only 30 golfers remain after a rigorous regular season. NC State is one of only four schools to field two players in the final round, including Georgia, Florida and Arizona State.
The FedEx Cup is a 37 week-long competition, that awards points to players throughout PGA Tour events. The top 144 players at the conclusion of the regular season compete in a four round playoff, culminating with the final round on September 25-28, 2008.
Clark advanced to the PGA Tour playoffs thanks to three top-ten finishes in PGA events this season, including a second place finish in the Crowne Plaza Invitational on May 25, 2008.
Pettersson strolled into the PGA Tour playoffs on the heels of an impressive victory at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro. He also finished sixth at the 2008 U.S. Open Championship.
Clark currently stands in 23rd place, while Petterrson enters the final round at 17th in total points this season.
