HANAHAN, S.C. Lauren Doughtie and Julie Saleeby are in the top-21 and NC State women’s golf sits tied for 9th after two rounds of the Cougar Classic at Yeaman’s Hall Golf Club.
The Wolfpack dropped from fourth in the standings after shooting a (+14) 302 score on Monday and is +17 (291-302=593) through 36 holes of the three-day tournament.
Doughtie maintained her always steady play with a one-over 73 today and is tied for 13th overall with an even-par total of 144 (71-73). Doughtie had four birdies on her round, including one at No. 18 that sort of easied the sting from double bogeying No. 17.
Saleeby, who shot 69 yesterday, wasn’t nearly as good today with a five-over 77, but is still tied for 21st overall at +2 (69-77=146). Things were going well through 10 holes, but went bogey, double bogey, par and bogey over a four-hole stretch that left her at four-over on the back nine.
Older sister, Joanna Saleeby, fired a second-straight four-over 76 and is tied for 50th overall at +8 (76-76=152). Like Doughtie, Saleeby birdied No. 18 to highlight her round this morning, which also had 12 pars, including six straight pars on the front nine.
Freshman Meghan Chapman showed great poise for a second straight day in her first collegiate tournament and is tied for 50th overall at +8 (75-77=152). A rocky start featured three bogeys and two doubles through six holes, but a birdie at No. 7 steadied the ship and shot two-under over the final 12 holes, including a bogey at No. 18 to shoot 35 on the back nine.
Emily Street improved by two strokes from yesterday with a four-over 76 and is tied for 70th overall at +10 (78-76=154). Today’s round was fairly steady with just one bogey over the final 13 holes, but like her teammates the first five holes was a struggle with three bogeys at No. 2, 4 and 5.
Georgia was red hot today with a nine-under-par team score and is atop the team leaderboard at nine-under (567). Virginia is in second, 13 shots back at 580, followed by Alabama (581), South Carolina (586) and LSU (587).
Third round action begins with a shotgun start Tuesday morning at the par-72, 6,159-yard layout.
