GREENSBORO, N.C. Former NC State All-American Carl Pettersson is off to a strong start at this weekend’s PGA Tour Wyndham Championship being held at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro. Playing in the same city where he attended high school, Pettersson goes into the clubhouse with a three-stroke lead through the first two rounds.
After starting the day one stroke back, Petterrson torched the course today with a 9-under 61. He is now at 15-under for the four round tournament, after he combined today’s score with yesterday’s 64.
The fact that Pettersson has the lead is not the most impressive part, but the scores he has shot thus far are setting PGA records. Pettersson's 9-under 61 in Friday's second round ties for the lowest round (not relative to par) on the PGA Tour this season.
There have been a total of 17 rounds of 9-under or better this year, and of those 17 rounds, Pettersson's round on Friday was the only one that included two bogeys. The round included an incredible 11 birdies.
