Joanna Saleeby Wins North Carolina State Amateur

Lexington, N.C. NC State junior-to-be Joanna Saleeby won the 59th North Carolina Women's State Amateur Championship on Thursday at Sapona Country Club.
Saleeby fired a one-over 72 to tie Madison Overbey of High Point to force a sudden death playoff. Saleeby had a putt to save par on the 18th hole and take the win outright, but her putt came up just short.
Overbey then hit her tee shot out of bounds on the first hole of sudden death, which left the door wide open for Saleeby, who made four on the long 17th hole for the win.
"I just wanted this so badly," said Saleeby. "I got up and down a lot today. I finished 4th last week at the Eastern and I have been working hard on my game, but my heart was really in it today. It's so exciting to have my name on a trophy with so much history and prestige."
