Joanna Saleeby Places 4th at Eastern Amateur Championship

WILMINGTON, Del. NC State rising junior Joanna Saleeby placed fourth at the Women’s Eastern Amateur Championship Thursday at DuPont Country Club.
Saleeby recorded a three-round score of 226 (73-77-76) for the top score among four Wolfpack golfers that competed in the event.
Younger sister, Julie Saleeby, finished 15th with a score of 233 (74-79-80).
Junior to be Katheen Strandberg finished at 237 (83-73-81), while classmate Cindel Gwyn completed her three rounds with a score of 244 (85-80-79).
The championship is open to female amateur golfers, with a certified handicap index of 11.5 or less and who belong to a WEGA Member Club (or have school affiliation). Clubs and schools in Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, and the District of Columbia are eligible to join the Association.
The Women's Eastern Golf Association Amateur Championship is one of the oldest and most prestigious women's amateur championships in the United States dating back to 1906. It is one of the few major women's amateur championships that is played in stroke-play format. The United States Golf Association takes into account a player's performance in the WEGA Amateur Championship when making its selection for The Curtis Cup team. The Curtis Cup is the biennial amateur competition between Great Britain and the United States.
