Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's golf team improved nine strokes and jumped up to second place at the Hootie @ Bulls Bay Invite at Awendaw, S.C. in Monday's second round. The Wolfpack was the only team to finish under par for the round, as NC State shot a 279 (five-under). The Pack moved up from seventh place, and is just one stroke behind South Carolina entering tomorrow's final round. NC State is ahead of nine of the 10 nationally ranked teams.
Freshman Matt Hill holds a one stroke lead, and currently sits in first place at four-under through two rounds. Hill shot an even-par round yesterday, and finished with a four-under (67) thanks in part to five birdies and just one hole over par on Monday.
Andrew Byrd also is currently in the top-10 through two rounds, as Byrd sits in a tie for fifth place entering the third round. Byrd used three birdies and finished at one-over (72) on Monday, and is at one-under for the tournament.
Darren Blair used five birdies and improved five strokes from yesterday's first round, as Blair shot a two-under (69) and is at one-over for the tournament.
