AUBURN, Ala. NC State wrapped up its first day of competition at the NCAA Diving Zones on Friday, March 14, with the men competiting in the 3-meter dive, and the women grabbing action in the 1-meter. Austin Hampton took 18th overall with a 316.75 in the 3-meter finals.
“Overall I was really pleased with their performance today,” said head diving coach Ted Hautau. “The meet was very close and the points were tight. There wasn’t a big gap in points between final places.
“Our divers were steady and consistent. Tomorrow should be a solid day for us because we are a little stronger in those events.”
Hampton finished 15th with a 316.75 in the 3-meter prelims, while Alex Dambly took 19th on a 294.45.
“Alex dove really well, but his knees buckled on him during his last dive, and that cost him a few points,” said Hautau. “Austin was much more consistent than at ACC’s.”
In the women’s 1-meter prelims, Chelsea Ale placed 31st on a 211.45, while Kristin Davies landed 39th with a 196.65.
Action will resume at 12 noon tomorrow, Saturday, March 15, with day two of the Diving Zones. The women will compete in the 3-meter, while the men perform the 1-meter.
