Coach Yow posted win No. 725 last Sunday at Wake Forest to become only the fifth Division I head coach to ever have that many victories. She joined the likes of Pat Summitt, Jody Conradt, Vivian Stringer and Sylvia Hatchell.
Gettin' It Done on Defense
NC State is ranked in the top-25 nationally in three seperate defensive catergories: 12th in scoring defense (54.1 ppg), 17th in field goal percentage defense (35.8) and 24th in blocked shots per game (5.0).
Versatility at its Finest
Khadijah Whittington has an argument as the most versatile player in the country. During her senior campaign, she is currently the only player in the nation with at least 450 points, 300 rebounds, 70 steals and 40 blocks. Frankly no other player even comes close. Oklahoma star Courtney Paris is perhaps the closest with 468 points, 392 rebounds and 85 blocks, but has only come up with 28 steals.
Whittington Named to Naismith Candidates List
Senior forward Khadijah Whittington is among 31 candidates vying for the 2008 Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced. Whittington is among the ACC leaders in scoring, rebounding, steals, blocks and field goal percentage. The women’s list was voted on by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, comprised of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators. The board based its criteria on player performances this season, and the list was narrowed down from the pre-season list of 50 candidates.
Shayla Fields Forever
Shayla Fields leads the ACC with 35.39 minutes per game.
She has played 96.5 percent (502 of 520) of the total minutes in ACC contests
Had a stretch of 202 straight minutes stopped at Clemson
Had an earlier consecutive minutes streak stopped at 245 when she was taken out at the end of the Wake Forest game on Sunday (1/27)
She has played in 12 full contests this season
Fields Over the Last Five Games
Shayla Fields has averaged 18.8 points in leading the Wolfpack to a 4-1 record over the last four games. On Monday she scored a career-high 26 points at UNC. Four games earlier she scored a then career-high 24 points in a victory over Boston College during the third annual Hoops for Hope game on Feb. 10.
Gartrell Over the Last Six Games
The Wolfpack offense in now a triple threat with the emergance of sophomore Nikitta Gartrell. The Atlanta native is averaged 10.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.7 steals over the last six games.
