Men's Swimming Heads South for ACC Championships

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State men's swimming team will travel to Atlanta, Ga., for the 2008 ACC Championships hosted by Georgia Tech, Feb. 27 - March 1. All action will be held at Georgia Tech Aquatics Center. Admission is free for the entire week and live streaming video of the event will be available via ACCSelect.com.
Competition will begin on Wednesday with the 200-medley relay and the 800-free relay. Thursday will consist of prelims and finals in the 500-free, 200-IM, 50-free and 200-free relay. Friday's portion of the event will be prelims and finals in the 400-IM, 100-fly, 200-free, 100-breast, 100-back and the 400-medley relay. Action will conclude on Saturday with prelims and finals in the 200-back, 100-free, 200-breast, 200-fly, 1650-free and the 400-free relay.
Stephen Mellor leads the way for the Pack this season with four top-10 times in the ACC. He currently ranks first in the conference in the 200-back with a 1:44.54, while his time of 1:48.32 in the 200-IM is also tops in the league. Mellor also stands sixth in the 100-back with a time of 49.83 and is second in the conference in the 400-IM (3:53.31).
Andrew Lester holds two top-10 times in the ACC as well. He is ranked fourth in the 500-free with a time of 4:27.64, while his time of 15:30.85 in the 1650-free is good enough for fifth. Mason McGee also has a top-10 conference time with a 1:38.79 in the 200-free for fourth in the conference.
Mellor's marks in the 200-back, 200-IM and 400-IM all qualify as NCAA "B" cuts, as does Lester's time in the 1650-free.
The diving portion of the men's ACC Championships took place last week, however results are withheld until the men’s swimming portion of the event begins.
