Women's Swimming & Diving Moves Up at ACC's

ATLANTA, Ga. A successful day of six top-10 finishes moved the NC State women’s swimming and diving team from 10th to ninth place at the ACC Championships on Friday, Feb. 22. Entering the last day of competition, State now has 149 points.
Jen Kopenitz started the day off by breaking a school record and hitting an NCAA "B" cut with a 4:20.91 time in the 400-IM prelims. Her time bests the old mark of 4:21.82 set by Karen Burbella in 2003.
Later in the day Kopenitz took seventh overall and scored 12 points for the Pack with a 4:23.46 in the 400-IM finals. Anna Linkenauger added nine more team points with a 4:22.44 NCAA “B” standard, good for ninth overall. Maresa Like-Mathews (4:28.79), Kayla Ricedorf (4:32.59) and Taryn Shelley (4:34.06) also competed in the event.
Patrice Dason finished 17th and barely missed scoring with a 55.69 in the 100-butter. Brianna Grover also swam (59.57).
Ashley Richter’s 1:51.77 time placed her 21st in the 200-free. Lucy Lindsey posted a 1:54.28, and Nancy Radloff had a 2:01.13.
In the 100-breast Jessica Ward finished 19th on a 1:06.48. Sarah Merritt swam a 1:08.57, and Jessica Stewart put up a 1:08.57.
Erica Smith got 13 points for State with a sixth-place finish in the 100-back thanks to a 56.27. Amanda Panty (58.39), Dason (58.31) and Grover (59.50) also took part in the event.
Kristin Davies and Chelsea Ale recorded 14 and 12 points respectively for State in the 3-meter dive. Davies took fifth on a 288.50 score, and Ale swiped seventh with a 256.80.
The Wolfpack relay of Smith, Linkenauger, Dason and Richter finished eighth overall in the 400-medley relay with a 3:48.65 time.
Competition at the ACC women’s swimming and men’s and women’s diving championships will come to a close tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 23. Finals will be held in the 1650-free (final heat), 200-back, 100-free, 200-breast, 200-fly, platform dive (women only), 400-free relay.
